About
OUR MISSION
Farm Games is an exciting new DAPER program, designed to bring together Stanford's undergraduate students and athletic teams in a fun, engaging way. Its goal is to strengthen the relationship between Rec & Well, Residence Life, and Stanford Athletics. The program hosts competitions for the undergraduate houses, with student-athletes acting as coaches for each team, fostering a sense of camaraderie and connection. We’ve seen that when athletic teams actively engage with students, it builds a deeper bond, increasing the likelihood that students will attend games and support the team in the future. By utilizing Stanford’s iconic facilities as the backdrop for these events, Farm Games bridges the gap between student life and the spirit of athletics, encouraging long-term support for Stanford teams.
WHAT'S WITH THE GOAT?
Stanford Houses (once upon a time, Neighborhoods) compete in various events and competitions throughout the school year to become the top House at Stanford. These competitions range from House spirit, athletic and non-athletic events, which give points to those who participate and to those who win. We consider every student here on the Farm a growing, young treeling - that will one day turn into their very own Stanford Tree. The winning House will be titled the G.O.A.T (Greatest of all Trees). Therefore, the Goat mascot was born.
Fun Fact: It turns out we can attribute the term G.O.A.T. to the actual G.O.A.T. himself: Muhammad Ali. In his time, the boxer was popularly nicknamed “The Greatest,” which his wife then turned into G.O.A.T. for publicity in the 1990s. By 2000, the term had become popular enough in the rap scene that LL Cool J named his album G.O.A.T. – The Greatest Of All Time. We’ll give you that one, LL.
